April 2017 Monthly Wrap Up – What I Read in April

After my blogslump last month, I’m very behind on my monthly wrap ups. I was debating on if I should write and publish monthly wrap ups from April and May since it is old now. I decided on writing them, not just for you guys, but for myself too. Even though I was in a blogslump I didn’t take a pause from reading. I have read a lot the last months.

#famous by Jilly Gagnon

This is a YA contemporary romance, where the story is highly similar and must have been inspired by Alex from Target (yes the meme, or whatever it is). I didn’t like this book that much. The characters wasn’t anything special or memorable, and I didn’t care for the story or romance. The whole book was just meh. 2/5 stars.

Grave Peril by Jim Butcher

Book 3 in The Dresden Files

I have heard so many people rave about this series. This is the 3rd book in the series and I’m still waiting and wondering when the story is going to as awesome as everybody says. I didn’t love this book, and it is a shame because I really like the idea behind it. I love the world and the main character. A wizard detective who is fighting supernatural crimes, how awesome isn’t that? There is so much potential. Someone told me that the series will be better after book 4, so I’ll give it one more chance.  3/5 stars

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

Book 1 in the Mistborn

This is also a series that everybody raves about, and I totally get why! The story was so good and addictive, I couldn’t put the books down. I also loved the world building, the magic system and the characters, everything about it was amazing! I can’t wait to start the next book, because this was a good ride to say it mildly.  4.5/5 stars

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Yet again a book that I have heard great things about. I’m sorry to say that this book and the story didn’t grab me in the same way it did for a lot of other readers. I can see why people loves this book though, because the writing is beautiful and the story is heartbreaking. My favorite part and one thing that I found very interesting about this book was the narrator. It was interesting to read a story told from death’s perspective. 3.5/5 stars

Blankets by Craig Thompson

Not my absolutely favorite story, but I enjoyed reading it. I liked the drawings. 3.5/5 stars

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondō

I picked up this book because a lot of people was recommending and talking about it, and I’m starting to get interested in minimalism and decluttering my house. I think this book was really helpful and gave me a lot of ideas on how to purge and tidy. Some of her views on things was a bit weird, and I don’t think I will be following the book 100% in the future. I don’t think this book is for everyone, but I enjoyed reading it. It is pretty short, so you should give it a try if you are interested.  4/5 stars

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

DNF at 46%. This story wasn’t for me. I thought it was boring af. The snow child (the child in the story) was pretty interesting but not enough for me to continue and finishing the book.  1/5 stars

March 2017 Monthly Wrap Up – What I Read This Month

My Month: This month has been so good. My energy levels has been a lot higher than it has been before. I’m really starting to believe that I will get 100% healthy in the future.

My Blog Month: It has been a really good blogging month. I have been posting a lot, and my views are the best they have ever been. I’m also almost at 300 wordpress subscribers, yay! Thank you for following, reading and commenting on my blog.

This month I have started posting a new weekly post called Sunday Weekly Update. In this post I will update you on what I’m reading and what I have been doing that week. This post is also like a diary for me to go back and read later.

My Reading Month: My reading month has been good. I have finished a total of 6 books, plus some books that I’m in the middle of reading. 1 of the books on my list fits the Beat The Backlist Challenge. And 1 of the books on the list fits the 2017 Dystopian Reading Challenge.

I read a total of 2510 pages this month.

The Hostile Hospital by Lemony Snicket

Book 8 in A Series of Unfortunate Events

This is the 5th book I’m reading from this series in just a few months (I read the first 3 last year). Even though I love the writing and find the narrator really funny, I’m starting to get bored of it. This series is really dragged out, and the books are starting to get very repetitive. This book was unnecessary, and to be honest I just want the series to end. 2.5 stars.

The Carnivorous Carnival by Lemony Snicket

Book 9 in A Series of Unfortunate Events

I’m still really bored of this series and I have to take a break from it. I liked this book a bit better than the previous one, but still not my favorite. 3 stars

Starflight by Melissa Landers

Book 1 in Starflight

I liked this book. The plot was fast paced and fun to read, but not anything really special or/and exciting. I got a really strong Firefly (the tv show) association from the setting, since the majority of the story is set on a trading spaceship. The romance was just ok, again nothing special, but it was cute at times. One thing that really bugged me was how fast Solara (the main character) forgave Doran (the love interest/other MC) after years of bullying. 3 stars

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

This book is so good. It is fast past and interesting, and I just could not put it down. The book was told from the perspective of the 4 teenagers who are linked to the death of Simon, a fellow classmate. The 4 points of view was executed really good, and we got to know the characters well and see them grow. The mystery part was really interesting and exciting. I was hooked from the first page. Brilliant debut from the author Karen M. McManus, and I highly recommend this book. 4.5 stars

4-5stjerner

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Book 1 in Shatter Me

My biggest problem with this book was the writing. This made it hard for me to get into the story, but I pushed on and halfway through it started to grow on me. The book was fast paced with a lot of action. I found the main character’s abilities interesting, it is always fun when characters have supernatural powers. Even though it was just an ok book, I want to continue with the series to see where it goes. 3 stars

3stjerner

The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Book 1 in The Magicians

I’m not sure if I like this book or not. I found the story and the setting interesting, but there is something about it that I didn’t like. It can be that it was too fast paced for me, 4-5 years (I’m not sure) are packed into 400 pages. I also found the main character Quentin to be very unlikable. It really bugged me how mad he was at Alice for sleeping with another person, when he was the one who cheated first. He didn’t see his own fault, and justified it because he was drunk and she was not. This is not ok. 3 stars

February 2017 Monthly Wrap Up

My month: Oh, what to say about February? It went by really fast, even though it is only 2-3 days shorter. It has been a good month for me.

My blog month: Because of the not so great January, where I had to take a break from the blog. My motivation to write blog posts has been down. That is why there has been fewer blog posts this month, only ca 2 per week. I’m also really behind on some posts, that should have already been up; like reviews etc. The motivation is hopefully starting to get back.

My reading month: Even though I have had a blog slump this month, I have been really enjoying reading. So in February I have finished a total of 9 books, I can’t believe it! It is probably a new personal record. I also DNF 1 book. 0 of the books on my list fits the Beat The Backlist Challenge.

I read a total of 2244 pages this month.

WHAT I READ

The Miserable Mill by Lemony Snicket

Book 4 in A Series of Unfortunate Events

This book is one of my least favorite in this series. I don’t know why, it just wasn’t as good as the previous 3 books. 3 stars

The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket

Book 5 in A Series of Unfortunate Events

Going from my least favorite book, to one of my favorite in the series. I really like this one, because of the introduction to Duncan and Isadora Quagmire. 4 stars

3-5stjerner

So far, this series is great. The 3 first books was definitely the best, but I have had a fun time reading all of the books. I love how this series is written, I think it is so funny and very different from other books I have read.

The Girl From Old Nichol by Betty Annand

Originally posted on my Goodreads account: I DNF this book at 25%. This book just didn’t grab me, and I got bored of the story very quickly. I didn’t really care about what happened to the main character after she left London. I found the beginning a bit interesting, to read about how it was growing up and life in the slums in old London. After she left London I didn’t care how the story went, and I choose to DNF this book. I don’t think this book is a bad book and I haven’t anything negative to say about it, it just wasn’t for me. It might grab other people more than it did for me. 2 stars

The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch

Book 3 in The Gentleman Bastards

OMG! WOW! BRAVO! Scott Lynch did it again. This book was just absolutely fantastic, I’m IN LOVE! He has made a beautiful and incredible story for the 3rd time. As you might know by now, this book series The Gentleman Bastards is my favorite fantasy series of all time. Go read it now! Please! 5+ stars

Morning Star by Pierce Brown

Book 3 in Red Rising

This is the last book in the dystopian series, Red Rising. I love this book, and I’m so sad to say goodbye to this world and the characters. This was an excellent ending to an excellent and intense series. When I say it was intense, I mean INTENSE! I want more books set in this world. I know the author is writing another series set in the same universe, named Iron Gold. I can’t wait for it to be published. I highly recommend this series, especially if you are into the dystopian genre. 4 stars

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

This was an incredible interesting book. I love learning about the universe, physics and the different scientific theories. I must admit I didn’t grasp and understood everything we learn in this book. I think I need to read it one more time to fully understand everything. I listened to this as an audiobook, and everything moved forward very quickly. That might have been parts of the problem. With listening to the audiobook, you can’t go back and read thing twice, and you cant’t stop and think in the same way you can if you are reading the written book. The theme and what we learn in this book is super interesting to me, and I definitely would read again. 4.5 stars

January 2017 Monthly Wrap Up + I’m back

This month started out really well, I read a lot and posted 3-4 posts to my blog every week. I also participated in the Biannual Bibliothon Winter 2017 Readathon, and had a lot of fun with that. Halfway through the month I started not feeling well. I didn’t have the energy to post anything on my blog or read books, so I had to take a break from everything book and blog related. This is slowly getting better now and I hope I’m back 100% soon. This blog hiatus totally killed my posting plan so I’ll be posting topics in February that should have been out earlier, like: Favorite Reads of 2016, Dystopian Bingo and Reviews.

Over to what I did manage to read in January. I read a total of 4 books, one essay and one book that i DNF. I have read 3 books that fits the Beat The Backlist Challenge.

Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Book 1 in Stalking Jack the Ripper

I love the premise of this book and I had high hopes for it. The story started out really good and exciting, but after a while it got a bit boring. This book was just ok, not great and not terrible either. You can read more of my thoughts about it in my Biannual Bibliothon Wrap Up HERE. 3 stars

Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven

This is now one of my all time favorite Young Adult Contemporaries. I devoured this book, it was so incredible good. I LOVE the character Libby, she is AMAZING! I really connected with her. Jack’s face blindness was interesting to read about as well. I really want to read the author’s other book asap. 4.5 stars

Sense And Sensibility by Jane Austen

This is my second try to read a Jane Austen book. I DNF this book at 30%. I found the book to be really boring, it just didn’t grab me. I want to like it because it is a well known classic, but I just don’t find it fun to read.  1.5 stars

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

I love Marissa Meyers other series The Lunar Chronicles, so I highly anticipated this book. This book is a fun read, I really love the Alice in wonderland world and some parts of the story. I also really love her writing. I just didn’t cared for the romance. If you like ya romance book with fantasy elements, and you are interested in another story set in the Alice world I highly recommend this book. 4 stars

What I Read

Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch

Book 2 in The Gentleman Bastards series

November 2016 Monthly Wrap Up

It’s this time of the month again. November is gone and December is upon us. I have to say it has been a weird month. A lot of things has happened, especially in the beginning. My parents was on a trip to China, I celebrated my birthday, Donald Trump became the president of the US, my grandfather died and I got a new cousin. All of this happened in just one week!

Now I’m looking forward to December and Christmas. I have a lot of fun things planned for this month. We have started decorating the house for Christmas, with Christmas stars in the windows and winter curtains in the living room.

My reading month: It has been a good reading month for me, I have finished reading 4 books. It feels like I have read more than I have, probably because I’m halfway through some books that I’ll continue reading in December. I have also participated in a 2 week long readathon. You can read about the Tome Topple readathon HERE.

Digital Idols by Jon Frater

I didn’t like this book. The main problem was the writing, it was just not for me. You can read my review of the book HERE. Rating: 1.5 stars

The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

Book 2 in The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series

October 2016 Monthly Wrap Up

I’m very happy with the amount of books I read this month. A couple of months back I was in a reading slump, and for a while there I though I wouldn’t be able to finish my goodreads reading challenge for this year. Now I’m finally out of the reading slump and on track, yay. I have read 44 books of 50 so far this year. I focused on reading darker books this month, like thrillers or more creepy stuff. I also participated in the Spookathon, that helped a lot and was so much fun.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Book 1 in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series

A great first book in a middle grade book series. The book is a quick read it didn’t take me long to finish. It has some great characters and the story is fun to read. I really like the Greek mythology theme in the story. It is both very creative and a great spin on mythology. The book is educational especially for children. Rating: 4.

Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar

I liked this book, it was interesting and a different read for me. I usually don’t read mystery or nonfiction. The author of the book is trying to find out the truth behind a famous Russian tragedy where 11 students mysteriously died on a hiking trip. Rating: 4

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison

The book was interesting and creepy. I found the setting very creative, and I wanted to know about the butterfly garden. I didn’t care for the characters and the character’s voice and I didn’t like the ending. I’m not sure I completely understood it? I don’t know. I also want to know why the Gardener did what he did. What is his backstory? Now I can’t look at a butterfly tattoo and think of anything else than this book. The book is very graphic when it comes to rape etc and also contains suicide, so trigger warning. Rating: 2

You by Caroline Kepnes

Book 1 in the You duology

This is a crazy romantic love story. Or ehm NOT if you are a normal person. But from Joe’s perspective it is. Joe is a crazy obsessive stalker. I really liked this book. I found the book suspenseful, and I couldn’t stop listening to the audiobook. I wanted to know what would happened next. It was different and interesting to be in Joe’s head. Rating: 4

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

I don’t like to read about people being sick, like Conor’s mom in this book. It’s just one thing I really don’t like to read about. This book is really sad, and I wanted with all of my heart for a happy ending. My favorite parts are when he is talking with the monster. I like the writing and the ending was beautifully written. I think a lot of other people would like this book more than me, only because I don’t like to read about illness. Rating: 3
