favorite angsty

romances

-This topic has been much requested! Talk about your favorite ships that have a healthy side of angst. (definition: adj.: describes a situation or literary piece which contains dark, depressing, angry, and/or brooding emotions from the participating characters.)

I don’t typically like and read angsty romances, but I found some that I like. I don’t even know if I’m doing this right haha.

The Gentleman Bastards – Locke and Sabetha

Locke and Sabetha have one of the most complicated relationship I know. Their relationship was angsty when they were kids/teenagers, and still is over a decade later. They are one of my favorite ships ever.

Carry On – Simon and Baz

I love this book, it was so much fun to read. The romance was angsty because in the beginning of the book Simon and Baz don’t get along very well and they hate each other. It also doesn’t help that they share a room at the magical school they are attending.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda – Simon and Blue

The angst Simon is feeling of not knowing who Blue is, because they have only been chatting anonymously online. Blue can literally be almost any guy at his school. This book is angsty, but also really cute.

The Infernal Devices – Tessa, Will & Jem

This love triangle is full of angst and heartache. It is actually one book series where I actually like how the love triangle is written. Do you ship Tessa with Will or Jem? I always liked Jem a bit more, but I like Will too, so I’m not 100% sure.

favorite sci-fi

and fantasy books

-In collaboration with the BooktubeSFF Awards, talk about your favorite science fiction and fantasy books of all time!

I often find it hard to pick 5 things for T5W, but this T5W was more than hard, it was impossible. How can I narrow down my favorites of all time to only 5 books? Go check out my latest post FAVORITE BOOKS I READ IN 2016 if you want to know some more books that I LOVE!

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

Book 1 in The Gentleman Bastards

This was an easy pick, because I absolutely LOVE this book. I love the story, the world-building, the setting, the atmosphere and the characters in this book. Everything about it is just so incredible good. I highly recommend it, especially if you like thieves, the underground world, heists and Morally grey characters.

The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch

Book 3 in The Gentleman Bastards

This is the 3rd book in same series as the book above. My favorites in the series are book 1 and 3. Book 2 is also really good but not my absolutely favorite, that is why it isn’t on this list.

If I have to pick one favorite series of all time, it would be The Gentleman bastards. I want to recommend it over and over and over again. Go check it out!

I can’t pick 3 more books, it it literally IMPOSSIBLE to narrow my favorites down. Just go and check out my favorites of 2016 post.

Top 5 Wednesday March 1: Fictional Jobs You’d Want to Have

FICTIONAL JOBS YOU’D WANT TO HAVE

– Any fictional career you’d want to have? Remember, T5W is always open to movies, tv, and video games as well.

Sometimes these T5W questions are a bit hard to answer. I struggled a bit to find specific careers to choose, so not all of my picks are careers. Bending the rules a little bit has to be OK, right? They aren’t too far off.

From Google

1.Teacher at Hogwarts

This was my first thought when I read this week’s topic. Being an Hogwarts teacher would be awesome. The only problem is that I don’t want to live at Hogwarts as an adult (definitely wish I went to school there as a kid though). I don’t know if teachers can live off campus? And I have also always wondered; doesn’t any of the teachers at Hogwarts have family, like a significant other or kids? (I’m so sorry that I’m a bad HP fan, haha) I had to researched this, and this answered my question:

Many Hogwarts professors reside at the school during the school year, though this is not always the case. During the 1980s, Minerva McGonagall owned a cottage in nearby Hogsmeade with her husband, later moving out after his death. A teacher could also visit a home by means of Apparition, the Floo Network, or a Portkey. In the summer of 1996, Severus Snape returned to his childhood house in Spinner’s End.

Those who remain at the school throughout the night seem to have private quarters, similar to apartments/flats, that are near or attached to their offices. –http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Professor

So my final answer is: Yes, I would love to be a teacher at Hogwarts! And also any other career where I got to live in the HP universe, have a wand and be magical would be awesome.

2.Shadowhunter

It would be awesome, deadly and really scary to be a Shadowhunter. A girl can wish, even though I definitely do not have the physical form needed to be a top trained/battling shadowhunter, haha. I picked this even though it isn’t really a career, but there is many career opportunities in the Shadowhunter world. I could work at one of the institutes or in Idris.

3.Dr Who Companion

This again isn’t really a career, but if I had to choose one fictional thing to do it would be to travel with the Doctor. I can’t describe how awesome that would be. In a way it is a job, saving the world and people over and over again from dangers.

4.Thief with The Gentleman Bastards

I don’t condone any types of thievery, but because The Gentleman Bastards is my favorite series and I love the characters, I would love to be one of the Bastard. Or maybe not, because that means I would be an orphan. But if I was an orphan living in Camorr in a different life/dimension, my highest wish would be to be one of the Bastards.

5.Wizard Detective

To be a wizard with magical powers and a detective, both at the same time like Harry Dresden from The Dresden Files, sounds really awesome!

Books to Get You Out of a Reading Slump

-Winter is a hard season for a lot of people and many of us are slumpy. Let’s talk about some books that are great for getting you out of a slump!

Starting on a long and intricate fantasy or sci-fi series can be daunting when you are in a reading slump, even though you usually love them. That is why I’m recommending some fun and fast paced standalones, that I really enjoyed reading.

Favorite Polarizing Books

-These are books that people either tend to love or hate, with no in between. Pick some of your favorites that fall into this category.

I must start with saying that I found it hard to find books for this weeks T5W. I only have one book series and not 5 books because I didn’t know what to pick.

The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

This series is a very popular young adult urban fantasy series. A lot of people either love this series or hate it. It has gotten a lot of praise, but also a lot of criticism for being problematic and bad writing.

I want to say this series isn’t my favorite fantasy series of all time, but I had a lot of fun reading it. I especially liked the authors other series set in the same world; The Infernal Devices. I love the world of the Shadowhunters, and I love the characters (or some of them). I’ll continue reading the authors books set in the Shadowhunter world.

2017 Debuts You Are Excited For

-There is already a ton of hype for well established authors, but here is an opportunity to discuss some debut (new) authors and showcase their books. There are plenty of debut author challenges and lists you can find if you are having trouble with this one 🙂

I’m really looking forward to reading all of these books.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This is a fantasy young adult book that I’m really looking forward to read. The synopsis of this book sounds really interesting and exctincting, and I have heard great things about it from people who have gotten early copies. I bet this book is going to be on a lot of peoples T5W this week.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This book sounds like an interesting young adult, contemporary book, that has the very important and current topic in today’s society: The Black Lives matter movement.

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl’s struggle for justice. –Goodreads

A List Of Cages by Robin Roe

I have seen this contemporary YA book around the book community lately, but it was Emma from EMMABOOKS (on youtube) that sold this book for me. Go and read her Goodreads review on this book. LINK

Gilded Cage by Vic James

Another fantasy YA book that sounds like a really interesting and exciting read.

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza

I have to admit that I had to do some research on books from debut authors, and I came over a list containing this book. This is what they wrote about this book:

This is intergalactic space opera Game of Thrones with a diverse cast and a kick-ass female protagonist. –Inverse.com

Can it be any better than this? This book sounds amazing.
